What’s your job title and which project would you usually have been working at?
I’m a Site Manager, and I am currently working on The Beach Hotel.
What is your role for J3 on the Nightingale Hospital?
I was Site Manager, initially for setting out and surveying for the structure and internal works and then assisted with external works.
What is your typical working day like at the moment?
Well, I’ve now moved back to my usual project so in comparison to working on the Nightingale project life seems pedestrian.
How has life changed for you over the past couple of weeks?
In terms of Covid-19 life has changed dramatically, as I am unable to continue with my normal daily routines and activities. It has also affected my work life too, and I think some of those changes will be around for a long time. Some of the Health and Safety measures we’ve had to adopt may end up remaining in place permanently.
Have you learned anything from this experience which you can benefit from in future?
It’s hard to equate being on a project for just a few weeks with the amount of learning I’ve gained. I’ve gained exposure to a much larger project and learned how to communicate within a larger project team. Working with the experienced individuals in the J3 team has been great and will benefit me in the future when working on larger projects.
What is the most impressive aspect of the Nightingale Hospital?
It’s got to be the timescale that the structure had to be erected and up and running in.
What aspect of life on Jersey are you missing the most in the current lockdown
Meeting friends for a BBQ or drink. But we’re very lucky, Jersey’s a fantastic island and I couldn’t think of a better place to be in lockdown when the weather’s nice as we have easy access to the beaches.
If you could do anything on Jersey for one day, with one person what would it be and with whom?
I’m going to have to say a nice lunch with my girlfriend, a few drinks and maybe a visit to the beach, otherwise I think she’d murder me!
Which restaurant / bar / café will be first on your list after lockdown?
Quayside restaurant or the Troubadour for a drink.
